Saturday Morning Drawing Class
When children are ready to draw the objects in the world around them, they will be ready for this level of instruction. Drawing basics will be taught through observation, demonstration and practice. Children will learn to “see” line, shape, volume, values and color. Drawing lessons strengthen a child’s ability to focus, compare, analyze and critique… all skills needed for success in school work! Our staff of professional art teachers and artists will team teach these lessons focusing on a different subject matter each month.

Fashion Drawing w/Model
Taught by Joanne Landis, whose career as a fashion artist, sketching models alongside the runways of N.Y.C.’s famous fashion houses, spanned many years! She brings all that excitement and knowledge to this 3 week workshop. Students will learn the drawing techniques and tricks used by runway artists while sketching from a live model or magazine layout. Joanne claims no prior drawing training is required , however a willingness to jump in and learn without hesitation or inhibition is necessary! Don’t miss this opportunity to meet Joanne and experience the world of fashion from an artists perspective. Includes model fee and materials.

Honors Art
Our Award Winning Honors Art Class is targeted to young students who are challenged by and interested in a wide range of art experiences. Each 6 week session will focus on the completion of a major piece of art. Each session is different. The projects are designed by artist, Scott Onsager, whose focus and attention to the artistic growth of each student is remarkable! Kids who demonstrate an ability to work independently, enjoy problem solving, can follow procedures, think creatively and are willing and able to stay on task will thrive in this art studio setting.

Watercolor for Kids
This is a popular class for adults taught by artist, Jane Albin, but it’s the kids turn to learn Jane’s watercolor secrets & techniques! She makes it fun and easy with great results. Small watercolor paintings will be made while learning the basics of this classic painting medium.

Painting Plus
Children at this age are often ready to focus on making a piece of art for a longer period of time. We will explore a variety of painting techniques as kids try out different types of paint, practicing brush control and color mixing. Each month will focus on a particular subject matter and we will study the work of a famous painter!

KIDS CRAFT CLASSES (Grown-ups are welcome, too!)
Begin to Sew
Using our machines, students will learn how to operate it by sewing simple stitches. Class will also cover, cutting fabric, hand sewing buttons on, (get out grandma’s thimble!) and hemming with needle and thread. Talk about a lost art!

The Painted Chair
We’ve noticed the popularity of “painted chair contests” popping up in our communities. We will help your child design and create a chair for entry in one of these exhibits or just for fun. Student must provide a wooden chair for the class.

Jewelry & Beading
Simple basics of wire jewelry making will be taught. A variety of items will be made using wrapped wire techniques. Jewelry making tools and findings will be explored as well.

Abstract Designs
Sharpies rule in this class!! We will look at abstract design and create our own drawings while we study different types of design motifs. We will also look at popular logos, talk about how they relate to our world today, and design an original!

Coiled Bowls & Vessels
Students will learn how to use simple rope and string to form baskets and bowls. Unique materials will be available for kids to incorporate into their work to make it truly their own creation. One small bowl and one large vessel will be made.

Decorative Stitching
Rock Your Jeans by adding colorful designs hand stitched with embroidery floss. Five basic, easy, sewing stitches will be taught. Creating the design, transferring the pattern and stitching the design in floss will all be covered. Students will supply the clothing – denim jeans or jean jacket is ideal.

Paper Mache'
It’s a mess – but it’s fun!! Class project will be to make a dog or cat out of paper mache’. Kids can attempt to reproduce their family pooch or re-invent the pet of their dreams.

Printmaking
Students will design, cut, and print images and patterns they’ve drawn on a variety of materials using traditional and non-traditional printing techniques. Unusual, unexpected and often surprising results are the joys of the printmaking process!

POTTERY
Wheel Throwing
Students will learn the basics for throwing clay on a potter’s wheel. Learning how to center the clay is the focus of this beginner class as students practice making small bowls and pots. Glaze and firing fees included.
